The Mod that was never meant to be
When we published Magna Mundi Platinum 2, we promised that this would be the last original version of our mod you would ever see. We already knew that we, the Magna Mundi Team, were going to make a transition to making a commercial, stand-alone game, also named Magna Mundi. That has been our main occupation since then.
In the meantime, however, Paradox came out with Heir to the Throne. This installment of the Europa Universalis series brought many exciting novelties - custom-tailored casui bellorum, trade leagues, and of course dynasties.
Being modders, we could not resist the temptation of getting under the hood of this expansion pack. This is the tinkering spirit you have come to expect from us; the same inventiveness you will be sure to see in Magna Mundi (the Game), once that hits the shelf in another year or so.
Hence, we present to you today Magna Mundi Ultimate, the mod that was never meant to be.
What is new?
-The Holy Roman Empire
Magna Mundi Ultimate makes full use of the added capabilities of H3T. As Emperor, you have exclusive access to a set of decisions (in the HRE screen) that allow you to propose the creation of institution that will strengthen the authority of the Empire.
As a simple member, you can easily check which institutions and laws are in effect in the HRE, by checking in the HRE screen. And both the Emperor and the member states, as well as strong foreign powers interested in maintaining a balance of power in the center of Europe, can now make use of new casui bellorum against those that illegally occupy territory in the Empire.
-The Papacy
Papal Influence, a concept introduced in H3t, determines your chances of getting a cardinal appointed to the curia. This central concept was fully integrated with the immersive Dei Gratia system, which gives a life of its own to the many competing religious groups who pursue goals ranging from the salvation of souls to the procurement of a cushy benefice in a wealthy Bishopric. As a ruler, navigate carefully in this area, where each decision you make will be sure to upset as many people as it pleases.
-Warfare and Reputation
Have you recently been framed? If your answer was no, you have not truly played Magna Mundi, and you are probably not concerned enough with your good name. If you answered yes, you know that, in Magna Mundi, you have always to watch your reputation.
In Magna Mundi Ultimate, this is even more true, since wars declared without a proper casus belli will cost you dearly - 4 points of infamy per province, 8 points for the annexation of another country. On the other hand, if you do have a proper casus belli, you can easily conquer your merry way to victory, without ever so much as drawing a disapproving look at an international gathering. But to play your cards right, you have to know what all the pretty pictures on those cards mean.
Here is a list of those casui bellorum which become available only under special conditions, and which will therefore require some strategic planning on your part:
-Diplomatic Casui Bellorum
Run-of-the-mill casui bellorum will become available against other countries, whenever the diplomatic situation calls for them. An insult, a defected province, a broken union, a claim on someone's province - all these can allow you to declare war on some other country. Note that you can not use the "Reconquest" casus belli against a subject nation!
"Claim Throne" is a special CB enabled by the diplomatic action "Claim Throne". But even if you are able to carry out that diplomatic action, you can only use this CB, if you have more than 80% legitimacy and over 75% prestige. You must also have more prestige than the country you want to attack.
-Casui Bellorum enabled by National Ideas
"Nationalism" requires the National Idea, "Liberty, Egality, Fraternity". Once adopted, you can declare war on anyone holding provinces of your culture group. This CB is disabled for HRE member states, but with "Liberty, Egality, Fraternity", removing your entire country from the Empire has become much easier.
This, then, is the CB for countries that don the mantle of freedom and strive to unite their countrymen under one government - their own.
"Imperialism" will be available to countries that have adopted any one of the four Colonial National Ideas. This casus belli can be invoked against countries that are neither in your technology group, not in your religion group, nor on the same continent as your country. It is also not valid against "Primitives" (they get their own CB).
In other words, this is the CB for overseas imperialist expansion. This CB is further limited by requiring you to have at least twenty provinces, three or more ports (unless the enemy you wish to attack is your neighbor), and an army larger than that of your enemy.
"Revolutionary War" will be made available for countries who have the National Idea "Revolution & Counter-Revolution". With this CB, you may attack all countries that are in your technology group or your culture group, and that have a form of government different from your own (monarchy vs. republic).
"Liberation" can be invoked as a CB by any country with the National Idea "Bill of Rights", but only against countries in the same religion group. You can only use this CB, if your country has no infamy, more than 50% prestige, and more prestige than the country you want to attack.
"Religious Conformance" (idea-enabled) --> see "Religious Conflict", below
Casui Bellorum in and around the Holy Roman Empire
-Ad-Hoc Intervention by the Emperor
"Imperial Liberation" allows the Emperor to declare war on anyone who has annexed an HRE member, for 24 months after the annexation. It also will be activated if a country refuses to fulfill a vassal's demand to be set free, if that vassal is a member state of the Empire.
"Illegal Occupation" will be available to the Emperor against anyone who recently conquered an HRE province without having a core on it. The length of time during which this CB will be active depends on the response the Emperor gave when notified about the occupation - the sharper his response, the longer the CB will last (keyed to the modifier "Illegal Occupation").
"Defection from the Empire" will be available to the Emperor against anyone who recently removed a province from the HRE. The length of time during which this CB will be active depends on the response the Emperor gave when notified about the occupation - the sharper his response, the longer the CB will last (keyed to the modifier "Removal from the Empire").
"Intervention in the Empire" gives the Emperor a standing CB against anyone who has a spehere of influence in the HRE.
-Enforcement of Legitimate Rule (before Landfriede is proclaimed)
"Interference in the Empire" gives Christian countries in good standing with the HRE a CB against anyone who is in bad standing with the HRE (admonition or worse), if the Emperor is weak. The adoption of the institution "Landfriede" removes this CB.
"Protecting our Imperial Circuit" gives the Convener of an Imperial Circuit a CB on anyone who illegally occupies provinces in his Circuit. The adoption of the institution "Landfriede" removes this CB.
Enforcement of Legitimate Rule (after Landfriede is proclaimed)
"Imperial Defence" will be available to the Emperor against anyone who holds an HRE province without having a core on it. This CB will only become available after the institution "Landfriede" has been created. This CB gives the Emperor lower infamy penalties and more prestige, and requires a lower warscore, than the 'illegal occupation' CB.
-Religious Conflict
"Religious Conformance" (until 1525) is the CB the Emperor gets, if he took the diplomatic action "Enforce Conformance", and the target refused.
"Religious Conformance" (idea-enabled) does not require a diplomatic action, and allows a Catholic Emperor to declare war on any non-Catholic HRE member state, as long as the Empire has the national idea "Unam Sanctam".
"Toleration War" is a CB that will be available to non-Catholic HRE member states against a Catholic Emperor, as long as the Empire has the national idea "Unam Sanctam".
"War of Religion" will allow anyone in the HRE to declare war on anyone else in the opposing religious camp (Catholic vs. every other Christian denomination except Orthodox), as long as an official, event-started "War of Religion" is active (These are the 'War of the League of $PROVINCECAPITAL$', or Schmalkaldic War; and the 'Long War', i.e. Thirty Years' War).

Magna Mundi the Game
Скриншоты.
